AI Search Optimization (GEO) in NYC

Answers are now generated above the results. We make sure the systems writing them, Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, use you as a source.

Being ranked and being cited are two different problems

A growing share of searches resolve before anyone reaches a link. An AI Overview sits above the organic results and answers in place. ChatGPT and Perplexity answer with no results page at all. A page can hold position one and never be the source the answer was built from.

These systems do not read a site the way a person does. They retrieve passages rather than pages, prefer claims corroborated somewhere else, and favour sources attached to an entity they can resolve with confidence.

That is a different target from a blue link. It is not a replacement for search work either: most of what makes a page retrievable is ordinary technical SEO done properly, plus entity work that most sites never did.

What we fix

Your pages never answer the question directlyRetrieval happens at the passage level, not the page level. A page that buries its answer under six paragraphs of preamble gets skipped for one that states it in two sentences. We restructure the pages that matter so each question is answered in place, in a self-contained block that can be lifted without the rest of the page coming with it.
There is no entity for a model to resolveAn answer engine has to decide you are a real, specific organisation before it will name you. That means an Organization graph with matching identifiers, sameAs links to profiles that genuinely exist, one consistent name, address and phone everywhere you appear, and third-party sources that corroborate all of it. Most sites have a logo and a contact page and nothing an engine can pin down.
Your content contains nothing worth quotingModels cite sources carrying specifics: a number, a method, a table, an original diagram. Content assembled from what everyone else already published gives an engine no reason to prefer it, because the same claim is available from a source it trusts more. We build the assets that carry citable detail.
The crawlers that feed the models cannot reach youGPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended are each governed separately. A single robots.txt line, a CDN bot rule or a JavaScript-only render can remove you from all of them with nothing appearing broken. We audit what each one actually retrieves, and give you a straight read on which to allow, because that is a business decision with a real trade-off.
Nobody is measuring any of itThere is no rank tracker for a generated answer. The measurable unit is citation share across a defined set of prompts, sampled repeatedly across several models, with competitors measured on the same set. We build that prompt set around how your customers actually ask, then re-run it.

A note on what can and cannot be promised

Nobody can guarantee that a model will recommend your business. There is no ranking API for a generated answer, the systems change from week to week, and two people asking the same question can be handed different sources. Any firm quoting you a guaranteed placement in ChatGPT is describing something that does not exist.

What is real is measurable: whether you are cited at all across a defined prompt set, how that share moves over months, and how it compares with the competitors answering the same questions. That is the number we report against, including when it does not move.

The second honest caveat is that most of this work is not exotic. Retrievable pages, a resolvable entity, corroborated claims and content with original detail in it are the same things that have always made a site worth ranking. A GEO proposal containing no ordinary technical SEO is selling novelty rather than results.

Frequently asked questions

Is GEO actually different from SEO?

Partly. The retrieval and entity work overlaps heavily with technical SEO done properly. What is genuinely new is the target, being named as a source inside a generated answer rather than ranked in a list, and the measurement, citation share instead of position. Treat anyone selling it as a wholly separate discipline with suspicion.

Will AI Overviews take my traffic?

On informational queries, often yes, and that is not reversible. The response is to be the source those answers cite, which carries brand value without the click, and to make sure the commercial pages people still click through to buy from are the strongest thing in the results.

Should I block GPTBot and the other AI crawlers?

It depends on whether your content is the product. A publisher selling subscriptions has a real argument for blocking. A local service business almost never does, because blocking removes you from the answers your customers are reading and returns nothing. We give you the trade-off in writing rather than a default.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and neither can anyone else. We can measurably increase how often you are cited across a defined prompt set, and we report that number honestly.

Does adding schema make a model cite me?

Not on its own. Schema helps a system resolve who you are and what a page covers, which matters at the entity gate. It does not make thin content citable. The two have to be done together.

How do you measure something that has no rankings?

A fixed prompt set built around how your customers actually ask, run repeatedly across several models, recording whether you are mentioned, whether you are cited with a link, and who appears instead of you. Sampled over time that is stable enough to manage against.

How long does it take?

Crawler access problems are fixable in days. Entity and schema work surfaces over roughly one to three months as sources are re-crawled and corroborated. Citation share on competitive prompts moves over quarters rather than weeks.

Ranked, retrieved, cited: three different things

Being fetched, being retrieved for a particular prompt, and being named in the answer are three separate gates. Ranking work mostly buys you the middle one.

Three stage diagram showing indexed, then retrieved into the candidate set for a prompt, then cited by name in the generated answer, with the controllable inputs at each stage.

We audit all three in that order, because a site failing the first gate cannot be fixed with content. Read why a page can hold position one and still be invisible.

We run a defined prompt set across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, record where you are cited, where competitors are cited instead, and which of the three gates you are failing. Five business days, no obligation.
